Staff profile: Julia Aitken
Name: Julia Aitken.
Title: Administrative Assistant.
School: Biomedical Sciences.
How long have you worked at Curtin?
Three and a half years – spending two years in Science and Engineering Student Services, then relocating to my current position.
Where did you work prior to starting at the University?
I graduated from high school in 2011 and worked at Bucking Bull.
What do you like best about your role?
I enjoy speaking with and assisting staff and students on a daily basis and continuously learning.
Why did you choose your current career path?
I enjoy dealing with people face to face and want to continue developing knowledge and understanding about the university, faculty and school.
As above – my first job was at Bucking Bull.
I haven’t had any bad jobs so far – hopefully I never will!
What project are you currently working on and what does it involve?
I am currently working on organizing Open Day 2016 with the support of other colleagues.
Your favourite place in the world and why?
I always enjoy going back home to Stockholm, Sweden, although I don’t go often. Another favorite is Tioman Island (off Malaysia), it’s absolutely beautiful!
Your favourite cuisine and why?
Italian as it is always tasty (and who doesn’t love carbs)!
What is the best piece of advice you have received?
To always be positive, confident and true to myself.
Tell us something about yourself that your colleagues wouldn’t know?
I am fluent in Swedish. I have lived in Stockholm, Sydney and Singapore as well and I am a huge book worm!
