International collaboration in medical microbiology and microbiome research

Professor Fergal O’Gara from the BIOMERIT WA (Maximizing Education and Research in Innovative Biotechnology) team, and CHIRI, together with Professor Stephen Stick’s group at the Telethon Kids Institute, have developed an international collaborative network with the BIOMERIT Centre at the National University of Ireland, Cork, in the area of improving lung health in Cystic Fibrosis paediatric patients. A molecular microbiology and microbiome approach has yielded new discoveries in the establishment and treatment of chronic microbial infections.

BIOMERIT WA is also establishing new initiatives in microbiome research in health and disease with collaborators in WA hospitals and European centres of excellence.
