Chinese students take to Curtin experience

Cecilia Ting, International Marketing Consultant, recently made her fifth trip to China to promote studying health sciences at Curtin. Cecilia said there is a significant demand from Chinese students to pursue tertiary studies in Australia, with business and engineering being the predominant areas of interest. However, the interest in health sciences courses is steadily growing, especially in the area of nursing and allied health, in part due to China’s rapidly ageing population.

As part of her trip, Cecilia hosted seminar sessions at three international schools and spoke on topics such as what life is like Perth, what it’s like to study at Curtin and study options in the field of health sciences.

Cecilia said that while Perth and Western Australia are largely unknown in China, it doesn’t take long for the conversation to turn to Quokkas, which are always a hit.

“There’s currently little awareness of Perth/Western Australia amongst the Chinese population/students which is why I always make sure to talk about Perth in my seminars. I can confirm that Quokkas are adored by all,” she said.

“As for Curtin, the video about the Curtin campus experience is always a hit, and students are always impressed by the size of our campus, facilities and the diverse range of courses that we offer.”
