Historical Milestones

1961 February – first Australian School of Occupational Therapy officially opens in Western Australia with nine students. It was known as the Royal Perth Hospital School of Occupational Therapy.
1964 The first seven graduates: Sandra Barrett-Lennard, Deidre Beetles, Clare McIntyre, Barbara McKenna, Janferie Macpherson, Margaret Warner and Carolyn Webber.

1969 The School of Occupational Therapy, the Department of Speech and the Department of Physiotherapy merge and become the Department of Therapies. Training moves from Royal Perth Hospital to the Western Australian Institute of Technology (WAIT) based at Shenton Park.
1972 Official opening of the Department of Therapies at Shenton Park.

1975 Princess Ann visits the WAIT Department of Therapies at Shenton Park. OT Abroad commences with students visiting India for fieldwork.

1983 Driving clinic for adults commences. Paediatric clinic commences
1994 Undergraduate course first recognised by the World Federation of Occupational Therapy.
2011 New Occupational Therapy and Social Work learning and research laboratories officially opened by the Governor of WA.
