From OT to politician – The Hon Helen Morton MLC
Posted: 31 October 2014
The Honorable Helen Morton MLC recently visited Curtin’s School of Occupational Therapy and Social Work to talk to students about how she became the state Minister for Mental Health, Disability and Child Protection. Mrs Morton graduated in 1969 with an Associate Diploma in Occupational Therapy from the Western Australian Institute of Technology (now Curtin University).
The lecture was well received with Mrs Morton talking about how her early occupational therapy experience and her deep conviction to make a difference led her to move from mental health, to management, into the health department before being elected as a member of the upper house.
