Schools Nutrition Project Officer, Cancer Council Western Australia
I graduated from Curtin University in 2009 with a Bachelor of Science (Nutrition) and Post Graduate Diploma in Dietetics. I studied at Curtin University as it was the only University in WA that offered Dietetics.
As a new graduate I was fortunate to secure a position as School Nutrition Project Officer at the Cancer Council WA within 2 months of graduating. In my position I have been lucky enough to further my knowledge in community nutrition as well as some clinical oncology. The main component of my position is to run and coordinate the Parental Guidance Recommended Program (PGR) a healthy lifestyle education program to help guide parents in their pursuit of good health for their children. My job largely involves the further development of the program resources and information, planning and conducting training days to various health professionals and university students throughout Western Australia, as well as running PGR sessions to parents and child care workers within the metro regions.
I have been lucky enough to submit my first co-authored manuscript to the Australian Health Promotion Journal an experience and opportunity I would have never imagined so early in my career.
My continued clinical experience has come from my work done at the Cancer Council Helpline, where I provide nutrition information and support for cancer patients seeking dietary related advice.
My job is diverse with many different opportunities and fulfilling experiences. I am privileged to work for such an amazing organisation. I am very lucky to have found a career in which I love that comes with so many professional as well as personal benefits and rewards.
