Biomedical Sciences – Message from the Head of School, September 2017

Colleagues, this is the eighth in a series of school newsletters, which started in November 2015. The main issues that will affect the school in the near future are the outcomes in relation to the Faculty and School Structure Review that are ongoing. The school is actively working on feedback to the Faculty of Health Sciences Change Proposal.

As you will be aware, the School of Biomedical Sciences was recently reviewed by an External Panel that examined all areas of our business. We expect to receive the panel report in September, or early October. The review panel were complimentary regarding staff expertise and collegiality, student engagement and student achievements and research performance.

I continue to represent the school, on a weekly and monthly basis, at faculty and University levels. Undoubtedly the next six to twelve months will be challenging with respect to Faculty and School Structure Review recommendations, decisions and implementations. I thank staff for their understanding and help with respect to meeting and maintaining high standards in both teaching and research in the present climate, where uncertainty regarding structures and courses from 2018 continue to affect us all.

Professor Philip Newsholme

Head of School
