Heart Foundation WA 2017 Research Awards

Congratulations to Dr Rodrigo Carlessi, who was awarded the inaugural Miles Research Award from the Heart Foundation on 9 August 2017. Please find further information at the Heart Foundation website.

At the recent Australian Gastroenterology Week 2017 at the Gold Coast, Dr Nina Tirnitz-Parker was confirmed as a member of the Australian Liver Association Executive Committee for 2017 to 2019, and will be the National Scientific Representative on the board.

 

Travel

Professor Philip Newsholme visited the Butantan Institute in Sao Paulo, Brazil in July 2017 and University Cruzeiro do Sul (UNICSUL) Sao Paulo, where he was involved in collaborative research and where he presented a seminar, titled  ‘The importance of metabolic reprogramming to pancreatic beta cell and immune cell function’. Travel and subsistence was funded by FAPESP (State of Sao Paulo Research Foundation) and Curtin University.

Professor Philip Newsholme also visited the Zebrafish Facility at the Butantan Institute, Sao Paulo, Brazil, with Professor Rui Curi, Deputy Director, Butantan Institute, and adjunct Research Professor at the School of Biomedical Sciences, Curtin University.
