Academics attend EACD Conference and Karolinska Institutet

In May, Dr Sonya Girdler and Dr Catherine Elliott attended the European Academy of Childhood Disability (EACD) Conference in Stockholm, Sonya’s favourite other city for anyone who speaks to her for longer than five minutes. Several of our PhD students presented oral papers and posters, which were well received. We also had the opportunity to meet up with our collaborators from across Australia and Europe, a very busy but efficient meeting.

Sonya also spent a couple of days at the Karolinska Institutet with Adjunct Professor, Sven Bölte, working on our joint autism research projects, and planning for others. We are looking forward to Sven’s visit in early December for the Australasian Society for Autism Research (AsFar) conference, where he is giving a keynote. Those of you who are doing research in autism or have an interest in attending the conference please visit the conference websiteAbstract submissions close on the 29 August 2016.

While in Stockholm, Sonya was able to indulge in one of her favourite past times of attending the opera, although the Italian singing accompanied by Swedish subtitles made following the plot of Turnadot a bit challenging. The above photo is of the room off the King’s balcony where, apparently, the Swedish King has his drinks when he attends the opera and, yes, it appears to be real gold!
