Pharmacy and Biomedical Sciences fieldwork
Fieldwork/clinical placements provide you with important opportunities to learn through direct experience. During placement, you will put your professional role, knowledge and skills into practice in a range of clinical and authentic pharmacy work settings. You will engage with people from diverse backgrounds, including other health professionals you may work alongside in the future.

Please read the following essential requirements for fieldwork/clinical placement before you enrol in a course.
You do not need to meet these requirements before you enrol, but it’s important you understand your obligations so you can successfully complete the placement component of your course.
Oral Health Therapy
Under the supervision of qualified supervisors, you will assess, treat and manage patients of all ages within your scope of practice. The majority of clinical placements take place in the Perth metropolitan area, but there are also opportunities for you to complete placements in regional settings.
Fieldwork placements settings including:
- clinics at the Oral Health Centre of WA
- metropolitan and regional government Dental Health Services’ clinics
- Aged Care facilities serviced by Dental Health Services
- the Princess Margaret Hospital dental clinic
- private general and specialist practices

- Criminal record screening and clearance
- Immunisation
Serology testing: There is an onus on individual students to be aware of their immunity or carrier status in relation to communicable diseases. Depending on the status of any communicable disease there is the possibility that you may not be able to complete the clinical placement requirements of the course. Students who are carriers of blood-borne viruses are not permitted to perform some procedures on patients. Serological testing must therefore be completed prior to or during the first semester of study in the course and the results communicated to the area Administrative Assistant. - First aid

Master of Pharmacy
At the end of your first year of your Master of Pharmacy degree you will complete a community pharmacy placement under the supervision of a practising pharmacist to develop skills in the clinical setting.

In the field, you will be representing yourself, your course or chosen profession, and Curtin University. You are expected to demonstrate professional attitudes and behaviour at all times.
